Ken... I noticed as I was looking at your bubble diagram that all of the spaces are blobs with the exception of the outdoor spaces... you are showing these as rectangular... any reason for this?? I wonder if you intuitively "expect" these spaces to be rectangular?? It will be interesting to see how these evolve..
Ken, I’m looking forward to seeing your program description and spreadsheet. The bubble diagrams don’t do it for me yet. I cannot decipher particular adjacency needs or orientation on the site, especially on the academic portion. How does living and working interplay?
Pete: studio compadre The main reason for the difference in geometry is to make the two spaces stand apart... they are extremely different spaces.... one is academic the other recreational, one is goal oriented, the other whimsical.... I felt by separating the two graphically I would start to set the mood. the shapes have nothing, at this point, to do with actual space or dimensions.
Anne: my ole AG buddy... the lounge pods are that space of refuge... I mean we all know that during the winter it is cold, real cold I Boston, despite global warming... and when we needed to get out of the studio to call back home, get away for a few minutes, etc we used the stairwell. in these lounge pods I envision them being a place we don't feel bad being in, feeling like we better hurry the call so we don't get caught... these pods will be that place. an 'outdoor' retreat when it is cool. I also envision seeing these areas to be places to unwind down in before bed with other classmates and talk about the days work and the days to come... send emails back home. A comfort zone.
Werner: guide and 'slave driver'... I agree... I showed these diagram to my office today and there were similar questions... when I get those I usually just start talking... and things start to appear. I have noticed that I have troubles formatting larger programs on paper.. but I am able to get them out of my head when speaking to office mates or clients... I know that I need to expand this skill set and be able to clearly put these ideas/concepts on paper in a way that anyone can look at it an see what I want to get out of the space. I know that these exercises will help and I am sure that I will make a few more goes at this type of data transfer.
please see the current post with the schedule and diagrams.
Ken... I like the idea of the "comfort zone pods". Being away from your family for a long period can be a tough task. Someplace to be able to unwind and check in is nice touch.

I'm interested in you lounge pods. These resting places are important to me too. How do you envison them? Will they play a major role in your design?
